As a mother myself, I understand firsthand the unique challenges involved during reproductive life events. I also bring my expertise into our therapeutic work together as a specialist in perinatal mood/anxiety disorders via my ongoing continuing education in this field.
Over 20% of all childbearing women will experience anxiety or depression during pregnancy and/or postpartum. As women, fluctuations in our reproductive hormones across the lifespan can influence emotional health, which places us in a position of vulnerability to depression and anxiety. Men can also experience mood shifts when becoming a parent.
Individual and couples psychotherapy is available to support new parent(s) during the transition to parenthood and beyond. Some may struggle with conception and benefit from supportive counseling during fertility treatments. Furthermore, I am committed to supporting parents who are bravely raising special needs children.
I blend psycho-education with a strengths-focused, humanistic perspective. Cognitive behavioral and interpersonal psychotherapy are beneficial for those struggling with a PMAD. My work is client-centered and I operate from the perspective that my clients hold the answers to solving their challenges. Some additional support can be all that is needed, combined with a comprehensive multi-modal treatment plan, to help a person to heal and recover. Help is available.
